Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and choosing the bestrental home:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Well-appointed villa with rooftop pool & beach access - 1 block to Coligny Plaza has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you long to visit, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
