Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To book the largest rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Choosing the perfect vacation home in Hilton Head:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Lagoon-View Condo with Al Fresco Dining, Shared Pool, Golf Course & Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
