Our top Hilton Head rental booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing the best Hilton Head rental:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Modern Condo with Shared Pool and Hot Tub, Lagoon View, and Nearby Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
