Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking your prefect Hilton Head rental home:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Spectacular Harbourfront Villa completely renovated located in Shelter Cove has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More considerations:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
