Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Spacious Dog-Friendly Waterfront Getaway w\/ Kayaks, Ping-Pong Table, Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.

During your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
