Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best rental home in Hilton Head:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Beautiful Oceanfront Home with Large Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
