Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and picking your Hilton Head rental:

  • Start by having your group decide on the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Lovely, water-view townhouse with pool - short walk to Harbour Town & playground has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
