Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book a perfect Hilton Head vacation home:
- First, have your family select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Cozy Villa with Private Balcony, Shared Pool & Hot Tub - Walk to the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
