Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To find the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cozy Villa with Private Balcony, Shared Pool & Hot Tub - Walk to the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
