Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Comfortable Condo with Shared Pool, Hot Tub, and Ocean Views - Walk to the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
