Strategies to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • To book the largest rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best vacation home:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Bright, Family-Friendly Condo w\/Free WiFi, Private W\/D, Balcony, and Shared Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
