Tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Beautifully Updated Home Just a Few Minutes Walk to the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
