Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. A Quiet Beach Getaway with Pools, Hot Tub, Tennis Courts, and Private Patio has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
