Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. A Quiet Beach Getaway with Pools, Hot Tub, Tennis Courts, and Private Patio has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your family.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
