Finding the best vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 1st-floor beachfront-view condo with beach access, pool, BBQ, gym, balcony & W\/D has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
