Tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • To find the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the best vacation home:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Charming upgraded 2 bed villa in Main Sail overlooking Shelter Cove Marina has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
