Getting the best vacation home experience:
Get the best value:
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Updated beach gem with ocean views, pool, hot tub, & tennis - snowbird-friendly has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
