Hilton Head rental home booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your group commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sunset Rentals
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
