Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Pet friendly Palmetto Dunes villa on the first floor- short walk to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
