Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- To find the best value, change your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Beautiful Beachside Villa! Oceanfront Heated Pool Just Steps from the Sand! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
