Vacation rental home tips:
Getting the best value:
- To get the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Hilton Head rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Stunning oceanfront villa with WiFi, pool & hot tub, private balcony has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
