Getting the best rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Roomy Villa with WiFi, Pool, & Hot Tub - Steps from the Ocean has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
