Getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To book the largest rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking the best Hilton Head vacation home:

  • To start, have your group decide on the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Large Two Bedroom Villa Centrally Located within Palmetto Dunes Resort! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

During your stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
