Our top Hilton Head rental home tips:

Sticking to a budget:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your Hilton Head rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Brigantine Quarters, Shipyard Plantation, Hilton Head 2 bed\/2 bath condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is suitable for your family.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

During your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
