How to book the best vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Brigantine Quarters, Shipyard Plantation, Hilton Head 2 bed\/2 bath condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
