Strategies for getting the best rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the best vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Finding the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Condo with Shared Pool, Hot Tub, Beach Access & Playground has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
