Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking the rightrental home:
- Start by having your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Ocean view condo at beachfront resort with pool, hot tub, pickleball & tennis has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
