Our top Hilton Head rental home booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. 4 bedroom\/4.5 bathroom home with private pool, screened in porch, golf views has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. text the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective.
