Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental home in Hilton Head:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautifully renovated villa with stunning views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
