Booking the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautifully renovated villa with stunning views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
