How to book the best vacation home experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. New to the Rental Market! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
