Rental home tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in Hilton Head:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Snowbird-friendly home with 2 decks, enclosed yard, AC, & WiFi - walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
