Strategies to get the perfect rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking your prefect Hilton Head rental:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Snowbird-friendly home with 2 decks, enclosed yard, AC, & WiFi - walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
