Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your Hilton Head vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family select vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Lovely Beach-Contemporary Home Minutes to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
