Strategies for getting the best rental experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the perfect vacation home:
- First, have your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Condo Steps from Ocean with WiFi, Partial Beach Views, Heated Pool\/Gas Grills has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you simply love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
