Finding the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group commit to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Condo Steps from Ocean with WiFi, Partial Beach Views, Heated Pool\/Gas Grills has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
