Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Large Two Bedroom Villa with Four Queen Beds on the Lagoon! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
