Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:
Finding the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking your Hilton Head vacation home:
- To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Bright and cozy condo near the beach with a pool, AC, & a private washer\/dryer has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
