Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to select the perfect vacation home in Hilton Head:

  • First, have your group agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Beautiful Golf Front Villa! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, contact the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
