Finding the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation home in Hilton Head:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • 300 Yards to Folly Field Beach
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
