Getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Beachy Bliss
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
