Tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beachfront escape with balcony, pool, beach access, WiFi, beach views, and AC has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
