Hilton Head rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to select the best rental in Hilton Head:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Wonderful vacation condo featuring shared pool & WiFi - close to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
