Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Luxurious 5th floor One of a Kind Oceanfront Penthouse! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
