Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have deals for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Turtles & Tails - PET FRIENDLY! Weekly Rates from January to February 8th, 2025! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
