Getting the best rental home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, change your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the perfect vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Turtles & Tails - PET FRIENDLY! Weekly Rates from January to February 8th, 2025! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
