Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. The Pool Is At Your Doorstep! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
