Finding the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Spacious newly updated home, short walk to the beach with great golf views! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
