Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Hilton Head rental home:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. SeaPines, Walk to the Beach Club, Updated, Pet friendly has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If not, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
