Our top Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Recently Updated Beautiful Villa Directly on the Fazio Golf Course! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
