Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Hilton Head vacation home:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Perfect Place for the Holidays! Great for entertaining & fits the whole family. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
