Hilton Head vacation rental tips:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Newly remodeled condo in Villamare has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. message the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
