How to find the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • To start, have your family commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Great pet friendly Sea Pines home with a large courtyard pool! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Tips for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
