Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing the bestvacation home:

  • First, have your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Great pet friendly Sea Pines home with a large courtyard pool! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
