Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental home in Hilton Head:
- First and foremost, have your family choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Lovely Light and Bright Queens Grant Villa! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
