Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Island gem with shared amenities, pond view & fast WiFi - near the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, email the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
