Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Island gem with shared amenities, pond view & fast WiFi - near the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
