Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental:
- To book the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Palmetto Dunes 3 bedroom home with a pool and just a short walk to the ocean! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
