Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Gorgeous oceanfront beach home with private pool in Palmetto Dunes sleeps 22 has 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
