Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose yourvacation home:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Gorgeous condo close to beach with golf views and swimming pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
